Brain Injury Awareness Month

Brain Injury Awareness Month logo: My Brain Injury Journey

Everyone’s brain injury story deserves to be told, and it’s up to us, as survivors and supporters, to tell them. Because the more people who know the truth about brain injuries, the fewer misconceptions there will be. This Brain Injury Awareness Month, we encourage you to share your story about your own unique brain injury journey.

Every year, at least 2.8 million Americans sustain a traumatic brain injury. While many people go on to make a full recovery, there are more than 5 million people in the U.S. living with a permanent brain injury-related disability – that’s one in 60 Americans.

BIAC has lots of activity coming up to spread the word.  Here’s how YOU can get involved!

  • Share YOUR unique brain injury story HERE and we may feature it on our social media during Brain Injury Awareness Month and throughout the year.
  • Follow along and engage with the “My Brain Injury Journey” campaign on Facebook & Instagram all month long. Use #MyBrainInjuryJourney in your own posts.
  • Look for BIAC’s Public Awareness Campaign online, on bus sides, train platform kiosks, on CT Public Radio, and local television.
  • Subscribe to our  monthly e-newsletter, Buzz, here and encourage your friends and family to subscribe.
  • For more ideas on how YOU can create awareness and advocate, visit BIAC’s website here.
  • If you or someone you know is struggling due to brain injury, contact our Helpline at 860-219-0291 and get connected to a BIAC Brain Injury Specialist. Learn more here!  BIAC also offers support groups statewide, for individuals with brain injury, for caregivers and family members. Support groups meetings are held a number of different ways – virtually, hybrid, and in person.  Check out our support group options here.
