Kwame O. Asante, MD, President
Dr. Asante serves as Chair of Physical Health and Medical Rehabilitation at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Director for Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital. He previously served as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New England Baptist Hospital.
Sarah Raskin, PhD., ABBPP/ABCN, Past-President
Dr. Raskin is Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Trinity College. A well-known researcher and expert in neuropsychological evaluation and cognitive remediation, Dr. Raskin has been a frequent presenter at BIAC’s conferences and workshops. She served on BIAC’s board (1995-1998) and has been a Support Group Facilitator since 1994.
Ginger Mills, PsyD, Vice President
Dr. Mills is a Clinical Neuropsychologist with the Department of Neurology at the Yale School of Medicine. She previously served as Clinical Neuropsychologist at Harford Healthcare Chase Movement Disorders Clinic.
Nicole Fortino, Secretary
Ms. Fortino serves as Neuro-Liaison for CareOne Neurobehavioral Rehabilitation Programs. She previously served in the same role for Kindred/Next Step.
Greg Bubnash, Treasurer
Former Director of the Investment Advisory Group of Hartford Mutual Funds, Mr. Bubnash has an adult son with a brain injury. Mr. Bubnash has been an active participant in BIAC’s bike-a-thon and golf tournament. His finance and auditing experience are of significant value to the Board.
James Bergenn, JD
Mr. Bergenn is a partner at the law firm of Shipman and Goodwin and Adjunct Professor at the UCONN School of Law. He serves on the Board of the Covenant School.
Jackie Blea
Ms. Blea serves on the Avon Board of Education as well as the CREC Council. She is an active volunteer for many causes. Ms. Blea owns an embroidery business and has a family member with a brain injury.
Stewart Casper, JD
Mr. Casper is a member at Casper and de Toledo, LLC, Stamford. Mr. Casper has practiced law and handled TBI cases for over 40 years. He has lectured on TBI issues in the law throughout the country and authored and co-authored several papers relating to TBI. He has served on the Board of the CT Trial Lawyers Association in several capacities since 1987.
Andrew Groher, JD
Mr. Groher has served at the law firm of RisCassi & Davis for more than 30 years and is a former member of the BIAC Board of Directors. He currently serves on the Board of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association.
Maryann McGuire, RN, MPH
Ms. McGuire is National Account Manager with CoinferMED, which provides eConsults for primary care practices. The mother of a son with a brain injury, Maryann also consults with BIAC on research and grant writing.
Lydia (Lilly) Velez-Herrera
Ms. Velez-Herrera is the Founder of Lilly Sin Barreras/Lilly Without Barriers, where people can get help removing barriers to learning, navigating and recovery. She is a brain injury survivor and has been a strong supporter and partner with BIAC.
Julie Peters, CBIS (Ex Officio)
Executive Director, Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut
Ms. Peters is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and has served as BIAC’s Executive Director since 2002. Prior to joining BIAC, she served as Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers-Utah Chapter.
